$500 gaming Rig

I recently upgraded my rig, as we all have to do, and I wish I'd have read this first, so you probably should. Like the autor I tend to buy just behind the curve. While I can justify this by saying that as a dev I need to be playing on what best represents the cross section opf players, the truth is that I'm poor, or at least a tight ass.

This little gem of an article is almost exactly what I bought with a couple of exceptions. First, I couldn't get the amazingly good valur of the AMD 3000 and had to spend an extra 30% for the 3200 (not worth the money in any tangible way) and second I couldn't get a mobo with both PCIe and AGP to support my current and future upgrades. If you are like me, you buy cpu/mobo/ram one year and video card the next. Right now a board that supports both and is a 939 socket is a clear winner. As I said, wish I'd have read this first (not to mention the great $50 HD they recommend).

Tom's Hardware Rocks.
