Apple Screws It Up Again!
No surpride really. Don't misunderstand me. Anyone who knows me knows I'm a Mac head and have been since I got my first Mac Classic. I still own it and I have an iPod though I'd never ever buy a song from that crippled ass iStore, but that's another rany. Todays rant starts with an imagined conversation.
Steve: Dudes, we need to release the Pro, it's got Xeons in it!
Dude 1: ZOMG!11
Steve: Exactly!
Dude 2: But uh we decided to go with nVidia this time for graphics since you know, ATi like sucks and all.
Steve: What's the hold up?
Dude 1: Yeah, grab the crappiest thing they make and slap it in!
Steve: Par for the course! Let's have some i-Love!
Dude 2: Yeah but they only make like rockin' 7 series cards really now and none of them look like crap.
Steve: You call them up and tell them I want a crap ass card ASAP or I unleash the death ray.
Dude 1: Hells yeah! And tell em to call it the GeFForce4!
Dude 2: That's already taken.
All: Silence...
Dude 1: How about GeForce 7300, that'll sound great but everyone with a brain will immediately recognize its crap!
Steve: Brilliant. Then we can charge them an ass load and put 4 of the suckers in a single tower. Maybe they'll think that rocks!
All: Brilliant!
And once again my friends Apple suckers peiople into buying great computers that will make them jump up and down for joy and saddles them with a video card that I wouldn't let my mom use in her Dell. I can't wait for the support tickets.

For some reason that reminds me of me current* computer, or more specifically, it's motherboard. If you look at the area above the PCI slots, there's a part that looks like another slot should go there. That's supposed to be a PCI express, and it would have been nice to have it since it doesn't have an AGP slot on it either.
Between things like that and all of the other problems that come with it, never will I buy a prefabricated computer. Unfortuantely Macs, for whatever advantages they may have, are universally prefabricated and, more unfortunately, nearly unupgradable (although I've heard this has become less the case recently. If not then it's like buying a console that can run Photoshop: It can do a few things really well, but it can't do much else, and you need to buy a new one every few years). Admittedly I'd probably stay with the PC if only for the games, but any consideration I'd ever have is ruined by the fact it's essentially a Dell/HP/whoever that has its own OS.
*Although I still have the case and power supply, my actual current PC is pretty much indistinguishable from the original - the motherboard doesn't even fit in the case, so it just kind of sticks out. It still has that logo on the front though, and I can't take it off without making it too easy to accidently turn the computer off.
I´ve been using Mac´s for approx. 16 years now. And I love them. To this day I have bought 11 Macs, and I still use 10 of them. My opinion about the Mac Pro. It´s a workstation. And most workstation users will use either a cheap basic gpu, or the high-end. I work a lot with film (making films) and I would never need a Quadro gpu. It´s an overkill. I will buy a a Mac Pro, and it will have 2-3 7300 gpu´s to connect 4-5 screens. What I would like too see when I buy a new Mac Pro would be Parhelia gpu´s. But I can´t have those today, so I´ll take the next best thing.
The 7300 ain´t a bad card, but you just can´t use it for gaming.
But I wish Apple would make a cheaper Mac tower with a Core 2 chip, a few spaces for expansion cards, and a couple of HD´s. Hopefully with SLI or Crossfire. I think this would be a good choice for a lot of potential buyers aka gamers and mid-market buyers.
I agree completely.
There needs to be something in between the iMac I might buy for light work and the Pro that is really a work station.
Jobs doesn't think much of gaming, which is probably the reason. That middle ground of computing, personal but powerful, doesn't seem to fit into his product line concept.
That has always just seemed odd to me.
BTW I love the game. I´ve been playing since Dec 9th 2003, and I ain´t gonna stop (started playing on a Mac, but dropped it for a PC). I´m trying to get as many people here in Norway to play it, but one of the problems are that people can´t buy it except by downloading.
But everybody I know that have tried it are extatic about the game.
