News: Star Trek Online Goes Bye Bye

I'm not sure any one is surprised at this news. STO was a very difficult design to begin with and coupled with the recent news that Perpetual had already dropped their in house MMO in favor of STO didn't give fans much to hold on to. Now they've dropped this in favor of going into casual games. Hmm.

i'll go out on a limb here and suggest that while WoW has made a new genre of the MMO in the eyes of many, these games are very big and very hard to make and we're going to continue to see more failures than launches and I still don;t see anything on the horizon that will beat WoW. Sure I've heard across the conference table from a certain company that their IP "can kick WoW's ass!". Uh, no. It can't. Sorry.

Oh I ramble. Cheer up Trekkies! There's gonna be 3 Spock's in the next movie. Too bad you'll never get to meet them online. maybe that's a good thing. You probably met Darth in that "other game". What a let down...

And there is no word from Multiverse about their Firefly MMO, when it will ever be released or even if its being worked on. Oh well, at least we still have Stargate Worlds...for now.

That's a shame. Their dev team put out at least one really helpful article on Gamasutra on their art development. The screens looked fantastic.
