GF6800 OC

The boys over at Firing Squad always rock when it comes to the tech reviews. Today they're ready to teach us how to use RivaTuner to turn a stock 12 pipeline 6800 AGP into a 16 pipeline monster for free. Only works on the AGP version (PCIE is butt anyway). NewEgg.com has the eVGA 6800 at $199 after rebate and this little softmod makes it run like the billy bad ass eVGA 6800 Ultra priced at about twice that. Ok, not really but some games do see a 10% increase and that's pretty good. With or without the OC the 6800 dropping to $200 bucks is a killer deal. If you've been waiting to upgrade, today is your day.

Athalon 64 OC Guide

I'm eyeballing a new rig based on the A64 as soon as I sell a few more pints of blood for the SLI. I've never been much of an OCer but I do like to keep up on the tech and this guide seems to have the skinny. Thanks to /.

Propaganda Spam?

The strangest thing has been happening to my inbox lately. In addition to all the monkey porn and free iPods that *some people* sign me up for I've been getting...well...history spam?

Here's the deal. Daily now I get 40-50 messages that are generally in German and often point to articles from Spiegel. SinceIdon'tunderstandwordswith morethantwentyletters I generally just hit the "Junk" button that Firefox most excellently employs. Not really odd, I get a lot of Korean and Spanish spam too. What's odd is the content of these is always about WW2 or German/Armenian hate mongering. The current fascination seems to be on Dresden and or the right-wing escapades of our longwordedfellows.

This is a really odd spam attack. The addresses are from all over the place as any good spammer would employ but the messages are entirely too directed to be mere happenstance. Today's most interesting read on Dresden was from January sent from an obvious dead drop mailbox.

To whomever my history spammer is I would like to say thanks though. It's obviously a lot of effort and the history lessons, not to mention the peek into the modern German psyche, is very interesting. Keep up the good work but please, couldyouquitsendingmethenonEnglishonesplease?

Edit:
Pfft. I thought I was special. Guess some of you are infected and I just happen to be in your mailbox. Spiegel admits its German Neo Nazi propaganda, weeee!

WWII Re-enactment this weekend in Waco!

My bud Ace told me this weekend about his re-enactment group and how they've got a full on Flak88 they are bringing. Should be an excellent chance to see this thing close up. Apparently there will be 400 re-enacters at the gig so it should be an awesome thing to see. It's only about an hour and a half from here so I hope to get the chance to see it over the weekend. Too bad I'm outta Flak Panzer Oil...

If anyone knows of a good mailing list for this sort of thing I'd like to make it out to more of them.

Xfire?

I'd never heard of this IM before. Seems like a nice enough tool and the service would certainly appeal to FPS shooter clans that bump around a lot. My question is do you think this has any benefit for WWIIOLers other than possibly getting exposure to a bunch (is that true?) of gamers who might not have heard of us before.

We've certainly done pretty well from involvment with the excellent Firing Squad community. What do you guys know or think about Xfire?

Beta Today 119024

I'm not sure if this beta will be good enough to start some open testing but we are getting close. I'll be out of town all weekend at Gunter's (well Miche's) Kentucky Derby Party so getting Test started up and not available all weekend is probably not that great of an idea so I'll probably hold it until Monday but there is something really cool that goes to test today.

You know when you are running around as a trooper and if you are going at a diagonal you can get that wierd screen shake. Well, I think Martini and Thunder actually got it fixed. Way old bug. If it works, job well done gentlemen!

Project Massive Wave Three

Carnegie Mellon University hosts a survey of online gamers that is now in its third phase. Participants can get a few cool prizes but the real benefit is increased academic awarness...ok the cool prizes are Amazon gift certificates and that's really all you need to know.

I'd really like all the WWIIOLers to participate as too often in the MMORPG world everyone thinks elves and swords are all that's out there. Help shape the MMOsphere a bit by participating in the survey and hey, if you win a gift certificate feel free to check out my Amazon.com wish list!
