PWNED by MoM

This is just too funny. What's really interesting though is that the culture of games is radically changing. We used to go to conferences about making games for girls and such mind altering questions about how do we cross age boundaries with our titles. Apparently the answer is "Build games that are good and lots of people will play them, even if they are like girls and have kids and stuff."

I'm headed over to TerraNova to share the news as soon as I get done updating my HotCHix directory.

Jack Thompson can bite my ...!

I've pretty much stayed away from the whole debacle surrounding the GTA hot coffee mod. The pundits have it pretty well covered and it just seems too stupid for words to me. (BTW !S Rockstar!)

I do have to give props to Broken Toys for putting up a great rundown and if you haven't read Maddox's take on it you are missing out. But Blue's News has got just about the most insightful e-mail correspondance with this Mr. Thompson fellow and as one would expect, he's a supreme asshat. His rundown on Janet Reno being a lesbian is about the most delusional (I'm not for a second saying she isn't a lesbian, I just don't care) bit of mud throwing evah. Must read this stuff.

Why then am I blathering on about this drivel today? Well, you see, we just got the Battleground Europe ESRB rating today...yup, M for Mature. I don't know if you've ever actually played games like say this GTA everyone talks about or hell even watched a TV soap opera or CSI but there is stuff out there in the general media space that is actually MATURE. So thanks Jack. Now I probably can't ever get a new Ferrari like John Romero because Wally World won't stock my wares and I'll be forced to die an obscure game designer who never got to smooch on Stevie Case because you sir are a troll. Thanks again. Oh and by the way, incase anyone missed it, his email address is Jack Thompson [mailto:jackpeace@comcast.net]. Don't do anything I wouldn't do...

Big Rich in the House!

No I don't mean that gay country rap crap that the GF likes to sneak onto my iPod, I mean THE big Rich. Rich Hernandez is in town on Thursday and he's stopping by the office. Guess the Mac fellas must have heard we we're re-releasing and wanted to take a peak. Suhweeeeet!

S! Phew.

Badger sent this to me this morning and I gotta say it choked me up a bit. It really reminds me to focus, as a player and designer, as a man and a son, on the important things in life, friends. It also reminds me what a miraculous thing an online community is and how amazing it is the people it brings together.

Mighty Mouse

I used to love Mighty Mouse. "Here I come to save the day!" though aught to be changed to "About damn time!"

Yeah Apple has finally decided to square up their mouse. You'd think that would have me rejoicing, right? I mean now Apple gamers can join the rest of the modern world and do it without buying a product from crappy MacAlly or the dreaded enemy, Big Bill. I'm gonna put in for one today and see if good buddy Ron Luna (props to the Mac Shack) can score me one of these all white wonders but in all honesty, my expectations are pretty low. It actually has no buttons and a scroll nub. Great. And at $49 bucks I'd rather get a wireless logitec that will pwn and take the GF out for some chicken. Points for trying I guess.

MMORPG STUDY

Nick Yee has a new study up at the Daedalus Project that all us MMOers should participate in. I'm not generally one to wax too lyrical on the academics of games though I do like to pour through all the data and discussion I can even if I don't jump in everytime someone who has more degrees than game credits pops off at the mouth. Participating in stuff like this is a great way to let the academia remember that it ain't all elves and bunnies out here.
