Auto Assault Beta Key Giveaway

Auto Assault Beta Key Giveaway

Last year Lucas capped off the series and put a grateful end to The defining story arc of my child hood. Never got to work on that series and trust me, i would have kicked SWG into the vaunted anals of all time most kick ass game. Trust me, really.

last weekend the number two slot on my most influential list took me for a beta run. Yup. D&D online. Pretty cool, a bit too much like NWN and honestly we prefer to play Hackmaster to 3.5 but still, a life milestone dream project is ccoming to pass without my direct involvment. More's the pity.

Now this weekend the guys at PA are giving me the golden ticket to ride on THE game I have most always wanted to make. CAR WARS MUTHUR TRUCKIN ONLINE. Wewt! Ah right, well it's Auto Assault. Still, Car Wars is about my most favorite game of all time. I have visions constantly of making this game online. Hell I've got about 5 acres of custom paper maps in my office and you can still find my old custom chits online if you look hard enough. All I can say is this better be friggin good or I am going to make my own damn version and I don't care how many times old Steve J says no I can't have the rights because I'm a lunatic stalker.

Join in the fun if you can. I'll be on as Gophur. Drop me a line.

The Gory Antigora: Illusions of Capitalism and Computers

This discussion at the CATO is great reading, as is generally the case when reading Jaron Lanier. I took from it a lot more than that to which the title alludes. This piece is very relevant to those of us who make, govern or are active in online communities, let alone the software that goes into them. Sure, Jaron hits it right on when he talks about how software, as implemented, is brittle and as such is condusive to creating "locked in" environments that suppress change and support closed hierarchies but it is the ideas that the culture that builds up around these software bits are not only enabling, but essential to their success and this foundation is the more amazing aspect of the phenomenon we call the interweblinkz.

Definite must read and I think they are going to shortly make my list of Dailie's (which I need to add to this page as I just really can't bother to get all del.ic.ious, er whatever).

Thanks /. for the link.

Back in action!

Dang 'ole! It's been a couple of weeks since I posted! What the hell you say. Well, late last year the naysayer himself, my good buddy Bloo, kind of chastised me over my blog not being enough about WWIIOL. He had just come off a rousing bit of fanboism over KFSONE's blog (see left) and said I should really post more about work stuff. He's probably got a point; I mean seriously, Terra Nova has EVERYTHING you could want to get about gaming right? Well maybe not but Greg K and Lum have the best of the rest sown up so I really don't need on that bandwagon. Or, more likely, that bandwagon is probably pretty full. So, that leaves me with my regular ramblings, which probably aren't going to set off any milestones in the Google Ad Sense program. Not too great either I guess.

This year, then, I've committed to write more about the game, what I do at the game, and in general other tidbits you might find interesting. Thing is you see, I do a TON of that already. I mean, Production Notes is pretty much my game blog and I think I had about 50 posts there last year totaling a gajillion words. If you want more, try the weekly Liaison updates and the newsletter, which often is filled with the drivel of yours truly. Ain't it enough?

Apparently not so...

This week's hot bit is that my bud Krieger is moving on. Way on. Prague in fact. Can you believe that? Pretty good deal I say. When we were there for his wedding the week before I started at Playnet lo these many years ago, we universally decided that not only was the lost baggage claim girl the hottest chick we'd ever laid eyes on but in general Prague is about the sweetest place on the planet. Right, work. So Kriger is moving on and we've got a new rat to fill his shoes. Well, kinda new. This Rat you see has a hang up about using his old nickname. Cool enough, we'll just have to come up with a new one I guess. Consider this a request for submissions. Need a clue on who this fellow might be?

Welcome home brother!
